GIBBS, Beverly 74, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at her home. She was born in Santa Ana, Calif., in 1934, and moved to Lancaster with her parents and sister in 1936. She attended Lancaster Elementary School and Antelope Valley High School, where she excelled in girls sports and the high school band. Her husband of 53 years, Paul, and her sister, Eleanor Stanton Cobb, preceded Beverly in death. Three children survive her: Yvonne Gibbs Kellogg (Steven Schmidt); Raymond (Sheryl); and Russell (Kryssy) and granddaughters Amanda, Amelia, and AudreyGibbs, as well as many nieces, nephews, and relatives. She was active in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, working her way through the offices to Worthy Advisor and was awarded the Grand Cross of Color, Rainbows highest award, and selected as "Grand Charity" in 1952, while attending the Rainbow Convention in Sacramento. She met her future husband, Paul Gibbs, at a square dance at Edwards AFB on a Rainbow Girls outing. They were married the following year. Beverly was very active in the Lancaster United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Chancel Choir for 58 years. She and Paul also enjoyed tending the memorial rose garden at the church for several years. To celebrate her life, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church on 10th Street West and Avenue J. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hoffmann Hospice (www.hoffmannhospice.org) in honor of Beverly Gibbs. Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Lancaster in charge of arrangements.
