Constance S. Whitney, born to J. Walter and Clare McDonough Schneider in Los Angeles, passed away at her home. She was the eldest of four children. Following her father's death, her mother married Henry I. Dockweiler, a Los Angeles attorney.


Known as Conti to her family and friends, she entered Marymount School in the first grade and continued her education there through college, earning a Bachelor's Degree in 1950. While teaching English at Venice High School in Los Angeles, Conti earned her Master's Degree in English at Loyola University in 1957.


After teaching for 30 years at the same school, Conti married Robert B. Whitney, who had four grown children. He was retired from Amherst College where he taught chemistry and held administrative positions for 41 years. Following Robert's death in 1993, Conti stayed in the Whitney home until 1997 when she moved to Monterey, living across the street from her sister and brother-in-law, Clare and John.


Conti is survived by her sister, Janet Schneider, of Novato; sisters-in-law, Dorothy W. Lytle of Cleveland, Ohio and Judy Schneider of Los Angeles; niece and nephews, Clare (Drew), John (Jane) and Eric; her step-children, Marian Whitney Archibald and John William (Ann) Whitney and her grandchildren, Kenneth (Kari) Whitney, Lorraine (Tom) Young, David (Lisa) Whitney, Cooper (Judy) Langford, IV, Holly (Steve Clark) Langford, Robert (Tracey) Langford, Kathy Archibald, David (Sara) Archibald and Courtney (Damian) Adamowicz.

In addition to her husband, Conti was predeceased by her siblings, Clare S. Growich and J. Walter Schneider, Jr. and her step-children, Martha Langford, PhD and Robert B. Whitney, Jr., MD.


Visitation will take place at The Paul Mortuary Chapel this Wednesday, June 25 from 4:00 PM until recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Angela Merici Church in Pacific Grove on Thursday, June 26 at 11:00 AM. Services and burial will be held on Saturday, June 28 at 12:00 Noon at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
