Ansel Eugene 'Butch' Alford, Jr. died peacefully at his home, while watching his beloved sports channel. He was 70 years old.
Coach 'Butch' Alford was born on November 24, 1943 in West Point, Georgia to Ansel E. Alford and Nancy Louisa McEachern Alford.
While living in and around Alachua County, he spent many years as a teacher and coaching high school football, basketball and baseball. During his service to Suwannee High School, the team brought home the state championship two times!
Upon retirement from 30 years of teaching and coaching, Butch settled in Gainesville near his family.
