Elsie L. (Cerkas) Emond, age 97, of 2336-38th Street, Two Rivers, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, April 17, 2013 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc, with her loving family at her side. Elsie was born on February 2, 1916, in Manitowoc, a daughter of the late John and Rose (Coblewski) Cerkas. She married Everett C. Emond on October 9, 1935 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1984. Elsie worked for a few years at the City Dairy and also at Mirro Aluminum for many years. She retired from the Metal Ware Corp. of Two Rivers. She was a longtime member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, now St. Peter the Fisherman Parish, and the Ladies of St. Peter the Fisherman. Elsie loved to read; she enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, and watching sports in (sic) TV, especially golf. Above all, Elsie cherished the time spent with her family, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was very fortunate to be able to live in her own home for many, many years, up until the day she passed to her eternal home. She is survived by her four children; eleven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren (private). She is further survived by one sister; a sister-in-law (private); along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Emond; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Emily (Matt) Hein, Violet (Ervin) Ploederl, Bernice (Stanley) Stanul; and three brothers and two sisters- in-law, Joseph (Bertha) Cerkas, Leonard (Agnes) Cerkas, and Louis Cerkas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3218 Tannery Rd., Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dick Mauthe, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Monday morning. There will be no Sunday evening visitation. Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th St. Two Rivers, is assisting the Emond family with funeral arrangements. Elsie's family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff of Holy Family Memorial Medical Center for the excellent, compassionate care she received. Herald Times Reporter
