He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy. He retired from Dana Corp. in 1987 after 34½ years of service.
He was a member of Grace Community Church, American Legion Post 10, Marion Moose Lodge, Dana Sympathy Club and Marion VFW. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed crappie fishing, pitching horseshoes, camping and hunting deer.
Additional survivors include daughters, Becky Jo (Billy) Peterson, Converse, and Vickie Lynn (James) McDowell, Marion; sons, Paul (Rose) Stairs Jr., Kemp, Texas, and Steven (Gigi Allen) Stairs, Wabash; sisters, Audrey, Decatur, and Jean (Bill) Stanton, Canton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
