Rose M. Babcock, age 74 -In the early morning hours of Oct. 24, 2004, Rose M. Babcock of Silvara, PA, passed away peacefully at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, with her devoted family by her side. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert M. Babcock. She was born in Exeter on Feb. 2, 1930, a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Danko Voda. She was a 1947 graduate of Laceyville High School. She retired after 31 years as secretary of Tuscarora Township and worked for many years at Voda's Garage in Silvara. Rose was then employed by the Department of Transportation as a licensed photo technician in Tunkhannock and Montrose. She also served as the Silvara news correspondent for the Rocket-Courier, a job she held for 54 years. Rose was always involved in volunteer work for many local groups. A member of St. Joachim's Parish in Meshoppen, she also held memberships in the Ladies Mutual Aid Society in Silvara, the South Auburn Grange, Disabled American Veterans Society of Scranton, Mehoopany VFW Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #510 of Black Walnut. She was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Voda, Ambrose Voda and Raymond Voda and a sister-in-law.
Survivors besides her husband, Robert are a son and daughter-in-law, Theodore "Chip" and Connie Babcock of Silvara; a brother and sister-in-law, Theodore Voda and Kay of Deerfield Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Joseph Johnston, Jr. and Kim of Apalachin, NY, Lisa Wilcox and husband, Mike of Silvara and Cathy Allis and Buddy Russell of Little Meadows; four great-grandchildren; several very special nieces and nephews; brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Norman and Lois Babcock of St. Joseph, Eldon and Mary Babcock of Irish Hill, Donald and Marilyn Babcock of Jamestown, IN, Ruth Voda and Marion Voda of Silvara, Ella Rosencrance of Tunkhannock, Vera Blaisure of Meshoppen and Catherine Molenko of Kingsley, PA. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joachim's Parish in Meshoppen. Interment was in St. Joachim's Cemetery in Meshoppen. Friends called at Sheldon's Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. submitted by Carol Brotzman
