Alfred J. Gates, age 81 of 2319 Lincoln Ave., Two Rivers, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2001 at the Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Two Rivers.

Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William G. O'Brien, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.

Alfred was born Aug. 30, 1920, in Two Rivers, son of the late Van and Mary Walesh Gates. He attended schools in Two Rivers, graduating from Two Rivers Washington High School. On Oct. 10, 1942 he entered the U.S. Navy, and served during WWII, until Jan. 1, 1946. On Dec. 8, 1950 he reenlisted and served during the Korean Conflict until March 25, 1952. Alfred was married to Marie Lane on April 3, 1948 at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He was employed at Hamilton Industries for over 40 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of The Community of Holy Redeemer-Sacred Heart, and he enjoyed walking.

He is survived by his wife, Marie one daughter Vicki Hrdina, rural Manitowoc; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Jessica Hrdina; one brother-in-law, Al Behrendt, Two Rivers. He was preceded in death by one son, Patrick J. Gates, and by two sisters, Levona Schroeder, and Lois Behrendt.

Relatives and friends may call at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church after 9 a.m. on Thursday, until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. There will be no visitation this evening.
