Frank Gonia Sr., 69, a resident of Two Rivers for 49 years, died late yesterday afternoon at his home, after a three and one-half year illness.
In the first years of his residence at Two Rivers, Mr. Gonia was employed at the Hamilton Manufacturing company plant. After 22 years with the firm he went into the tavern business and conducted the establishment now operated by his son, Frank Jr. He retired five years ago.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, at 8:30 from the residence and at 9 o’clock from the Sacred Heart Catholic church, Two Rivers. The Rev. Joseph Gabryzcek will officiate and interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery.
Frank Gonia was born Aug. 9, 1869 in Manitowoc the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theophile Gonia. Several years later he moved to the Town of Two Rivers with his parents who took up a farm on the Rangeline. Forty-nine years ago he married Miss Mary Skorch and the couple took up their residence in Two Rivers.
Survivors are the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Stanley Sievert and Mrs. George Werth, both of Two Rivers; two sons, Frank, Jr., and Laddie, Two Rivers; four brothers, Joseph, Anton, and Laddie, all of Milwaukee, and George of Chicago; four sisters, Mrs. Frank Kochorosky, Two Rivers, Mrs. Clarence Meyer, Milwaukee, Mrs. Anna McGinn, Cincinnati, O., and Mrs. Francis Winke, Chicago; 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Klein & Stangel, Inc., funeral home and will be taken to the residence Tuesday afternoon. The rosary will be said at the home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
