Josephine was born February 27, 1917, in Crivitz, Wisconsin, to Anton and Mary (Gnaida) Thush. She grew up on a family farm near Crivitz, the youngest of eight children, with four sisters and three brothers. Josephine attended a small country school near their home, and moved to Milwaukee during World War II to work. She met her future husband, Francis W. Haney, in Milwaukee and they were married in Milwaukee on May 4, 1946. Francis was from Columbus and Josephine moved to Columbus with him after their wedding. They raised three children – Mike, Jim, and Addie in Columbus. Francis and Josephine were married for 48 years, until Francis died on January 1, 1995. Josephine lived her entire married life at 1604 16th Street in Columbus, across the street from St. Bonaventure Church, school, and Scotus Central Catholic High School. Her children attended school at St. Bonaventure and Scotus, and Josephine was a cook at the school cafeteria for many years. Josephine was a 60 year member of Catholic Daughters of America and the Third Order of St. Francis for many years.

Josephine enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening. She was den mother to a Cub Scout troop of grade school boys, including her son, Jim, for several years. Her children, grandchildren, and many other family members and friends will always remember her freshly-baked cookies, cinnamon rolls, and other treats.

Josephine moved to Meridian Gardens in 2011. Her family is especially grateful to the entire staff of professionals at Meridian Gardens for the comforting care they provided to Josephine while she lived there. They also want to thank the hospice nurses who were with her during her last few weeks at Meridian Gardens.
