A son of Wayland & Mary Willey of Lyons, Neb. He was born at Woodbine, Iowa, December 10, 1891. Entered the service June 28, 1918. Shortly before beginning his service he married Eva O. Pease of Lyons at Brookings, S.D. Was sent to Camp Funston, Kan. Transferred to Camp Dodge, Iowa. Assigned to Co. F., 313th Supply Train of 88th Div. Went overseas in August, 1918. Died October 17, 1918 of Bronchial Pneumonia. Was buried at Hericourt, France. Private Willey went overseas two months after he entered the service and was with his supply train at the front soon after arriving in France. The exposure and fatigue made him liable to the influenza epidemic that caused his demise. On June 5, 1921 his body was re-interred in Greenwood Cemetery, Brookings, S.D. (where his widow had settled) with the Orr Hoffman Post of the American Legion of Brookings providing a military escort.
