CLAY CITY — Carolyn M. (Scurlock) Nees went to be with her Lord and Savior at 2:20 p.m. June 24, 2014, at Meadows Manor East Nursing Home, with her three daughters by her side. She was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Indianapolis, to Oscar and Myrle (Lawrence) Scurlock.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Nees, in 1992; two brothers, Don Scurlock and Jack Scurlock; sister, Joyce Smith; and son-in-law, Scotty Reed.

Survivors include three daughters, Gloria Reed of Center Point, Kay Katopodis (Sokratis) of Saline City and Linda McKinney (Pastor Terry) of Michigan City; two brothers, Bermond Scurlock and Chuck Scurlock; two sisters, Rosemary Vice and Donna Jolly; eight grandchildren, Jeff Reed (Lana), Julie Samuel, Jill Winkle (Jack), Michael Katopodis, Brian McKinney (Sherry), Kevin McKinney (Becky), Patrick McKinney and Angela Pearson (Alan); 18 great-grandchildren, Emily Hauser (Sean), Abby Reed, Tyson Red, Stephanie Granger, Denise Burroughs, Nina Burroughs, Savannah Snodgrass (Nathan), Dalton Winkel, Kelsey Katopodis, Mikka Katopodis, Bradley Candler, Angel Dietz (Tiernan), Dustin McKinney, Jacob McKinney, Caleb McKinney, Kayla McKinney, Melody Pearson and Dylan Person; four step-great-grandchildren, Josh Buhr, Janessa Quinn, Ian Pearson and Seth Pearson; six great-great-grandchildren, Jamari Burroughs, Jackson Snodgrass, Landen Snodgrass, Nathan Jackson, Taylor Spangler and Mason Dietz; three great-great-step grandchildren, Madison Quinn, Kegan Burh and Ryder Buhr; and several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed doing crochet, sewing, and working with flowers and gardening. She worked as a babysitter; a clerk in a grocery store at the junction of 46 and 59; at Nees' Greenhouse in Saline City, raising flowers and plants; at Ike's Grocery Store, also in Saline City, which she and her husband owned; and a nurse's aide at St. Anthony Hospital in Terre Haute.

She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt. She was be sadly missed by all her family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, with Pastor Terry McKinney and Associate Pastor Kevin McKinney (son-in-law and grandson of Carolyn) officiating. Burial will follow at McCullough Zion Gummere Cemetery in Cory. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
