He graduated from Canton High School in 1952. He entered the Army March 4, 1953, and was discharged April 26, 1955.
He married Betty White on Feb 22, 1958 in St. John the Baptist Church, Madrid. She died on Nov. 23, 1995.
Mr. Ames was employed by several area businesses, most recently the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center, Ogdensburg, from which he retired in 1992.
He was survived by three sons, Arthur Jr.; Michael C.; and Peter J.; two daughters, Donna Greenlief and Amy D. Ames; five grandchildren; four brothers, Joseph; Clarence; Donald; and Leo; seven sisters, Mrs. Milton (Elizabeth) Acra; Mrs. James (Eleanor) Cassoni; Ruth Robar; Mrs. Roswell (Sharon) Simmons; Mrs. Michael (Karel) Mace; Mrs. Everett (Janet) Aldous; and Kathy Fountain.
A brother, Charles Jr., died before him.
