Chief of Police, Norwich Police Department from June 16, 1884 to June 14, 1885. The position of Chief was unpaid and strictly an appointed position by the Norwich City Council during that time. Osgood was a successful merchant in the city and was the first Exalted Ruler of the Norwich Lodge of Elks #430.

The Osgood were a very well to do family in the city (as the monuments and other Osgood plots and vaults suggest) and were owners of a warehouse that was a main supplier to area pharmacies, The Lee and Osgood Company.

Osgood Street off of West Main Street is named in honor of the family.

The vault you can partially see to the rear of the obelisk is another resting place for additional Osgood family members.
