He is preceded in death by his parents and a son Jack LaRue Hood, Jr.
He is survived by his wife Alice Calhoun Hood of Alice, Texas; son Charles 'Mike' Michael Hood of Alice, Texas, daughters, Rue Ann Claybrook of Refugio, Texas and Christal Hood-McDonald (Mike) of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren: Trace (Leslie) Claybrook, Colten Claybrook, Reed Claybrook and Kieran McDonald; and two great-grandchildren, Tanner Vanek and Sterling Claybrook.
Jack enjoyed watching his three oldest grandsons play football at his alma matter, Refugio High School, where he himself played. Jack was self-employed as a farmer and truck driver and served on the Agua Dulce ISD School Board for over 20 years. In 'retirement' he combined his previous two vocations into one while working for the South Texas Zone of the Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation.
