Her mother was Mary Caruso. She passed when Mary & Charley were 6 and Jap was 4. It is believe that she is buried in Italy. Her father remarried in 1915 to Mary Santoro.

WEIDMAN, MARY LANZA, age 100, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2006, four days after celebrating her 100th birthday. Born in Meridian, MS, to Italian/Greek immigrant parents, she lived most of her lilfe in Birmingham. She was a hard worker, a great cook, loved people and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and gardening. Mrs. Weidman was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles J. Sanders and her late husband, Ben Weidman; sons, Charles J. Sanders, Jr. and Bobby Sanders, whom she lost at Tarawa in World War II, mother, Mary C. Lanza, father, Anthony Lanza, step mother, Mary Lena Santoro Lanza, sisters, Sarah (Mrs Charles) Patton, Constance (Mrs Ophus) Allen and Josephine Biggs; brothers, Jasper Lanza, Joseph Lanza, Jimmy Lanza, Tony Lanza and Charles Lanza.

She is survived by her grandson, Charles J. Sanders, III, granddaughter-in-law, JoAnna Prewett-Sanders, and her great grandchildren: Jay and Morgan Sanders, daughter in law: Bettye Akins Sanders, brothers, Johnny Lanza (Shirley), Sam Lanza (Peggy), and Pat Lanza; sister, Rosalie (Mrs Charles) McAllister, all of Huntsville and by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The funeral service will be on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Jim Achmuty officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Ridout's Valley Chapel directing.
