Jacob Patten Buried Monday

Jake Patten, a resident of Sioux Rapids for about five years, passed away at the Spencer hospital last Friday, May 29, at the age of 65 years, seven months and six days. Mr. Patten had been in ill health for some time, his condition becoming so serious last week that he was taken to the hospital, where he passed away.

Jacob Allen Patten was born October 23, 1S76, a t Cambridge, Illinois. He died May 29, 1912, a t the age of 65 years, seven months and six days.

At the age of six he came to Woodward, Iowa, with his parents.

On May 24, 1901, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Ellen Dotson at Adel, Iowa. To this union eleven children were born.

Mr. and Mrs. Patten moved to Clay County 36 years ago and came to Sioux Rapids in 1937. Mr. Patten was a member of the Methodist church at Woodward, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by an infant child and his father, who passed away March 14, 1920, at the age of 74.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Patten: ten children, Mrs. Daisy Kruse of Linn Grove, Mrs. Arilla Fairchild of Spirit Lake; Harry of Spencer. Mrs. Sylvia Brock of Everly, Roy of Jackson, Minn., Mrs. Elva Madagan of Washington. D.C., Mrs. Goldia Bair of Jackson, Minn., Mrs. Bertha Hansen of Terril, Mrs. Zelma Peta of Linn Grove and Jake Jr. at home; his mother, Mrs. Nancy Patten of Sioux Rapids; two brothers, William of Rembrandt and John of Tower City, N.D.; three sisters. Mrs. Emily Hand and Mrs. Abbie Erickson of Sioux Rapids and Mrs. Lizzie Hutt of Woodward, Iowa; 25 grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 12:45 Monday at the Methodist church. Rev. H.V. Bartz officiating. Burial was in Lone Tree cemetery under the direction of the Green Funeral Home.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral services held Monday afternoon for Mr. Patten were: Mrs. Lemuel Coil and Mrs. Lue Preston of Woodward, Mrs. Nellie Miller of Boone and Mrs. Myra Keith of Des Moines, all cousins of Mr. Patten; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hively, their son and wife and daughter and son, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dodson an d family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dodson and family and Harve Dodson, all of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. George Hutt of Bouton and son Ed Hutt of Perry, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hansen of Terril.
