Gale L. Rambo, 81, of Longview was born March 9, 1933, in Lake Chelan, Wash., and passed away May 22, 2014, at Oregon Health Science & University Hospital in Portland.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley; two sons, Steve and Scott; five grandchildren, Ashley, Brandon, Matthew, Tyler and Elijah; and two great-grandchildren, Sterling and Maxwell.Gale was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Dora Rambo; and a son, Mike Rambo.He enjoyed spending time with his boys playing football, coaching baseball, taking them to motorcycle races, restoring old cars together and just being their friend. Gale was a very loving husband and father and will be greatly missed.Throughout his life he built and raced hydroplanes, cars and motorcycles. He also had a private pilot's license. He loved speed and competition.Gale joined the Navy at the age of 17 and was a "Tin Can Sailor" aboard the USS Gregory during the Korean War. He retired from Norpac as a supervisor after 30 years, and owned Rambo's Hobbies for 10 years.Gale had a good life and was blessed with a loving family.A private family service will be held."Til we meet again, love you, and thanks for being the man you were."
