Mrs. Thos. J. Beard
The above named died at the residence of her son-in-law, J.M. Keefer, on South Lafayette Street at 7:30 o'clock this morning aged 72 years, 9 months and 1 day. Funeral services will be held at the Christian Church tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock.
Deceased was born in Fayette County, Kentucky, Nov. 10, 1823, her maiden name being Lucy J. True. She was married to Thos. J. Beard at Rushville, Ill., Dec. 4, 1838. Nine children were born to them of whom two girls, Mrs. Alice M. Berry, of Bradford, Ia., and Mrs. Lillie A. Keefer of this city, and two boys, John P. and Melvin R. Beard, survive. Her death was caused by paralysis. She was one of the charter members of the Christian Church of this city and was the only surviving charter member. She was a lady of excellent character, of a kindly disposition and respected by all who knew her.
