Greensboro – Elizabeth Burton Gabriel departed this life on July 1, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

The funeral service will be July 4 at 11:00am at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2105 W. Market St., Greensboro, N.C. Burial will be at Westminster Gardens. Visitation will be held Thursday July 3, at Forbis and Dick funeral home at 1118 N. Elm St, Greensboro, N.C. from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

Born July 30, 1949 in Pulaski, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Clarence A. Burton and Betty J. Burton. She was a graduate of Madison-Mayodan High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Coker College in 1971. She married her husband, Richard W. Gabriel on June 23, 1979.

Libby was an elementary school teacher. She taught pre-K and Kindergarten at Holy Trinity Day School and was a teacher's assistant at Greensboro Day School. She was President of the Parent's Association and served on the Board of Trustees from 1998-1999. Libby worked as a volunteer coordinator with Volunteers to the Court from 1976 to 1979. She volunteered with Family Services of the Piedmont and was President of the Greensboro division from 2005-2006. She enjoyed a lifelong interest in music, becoming a member of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra Guild. She was Chairman of the Presentation Ball in 2007, chaired the Homes Tour in 2013, and served as the Guild's President 2012-2013.

Her greatest joy was her children, of whom she could not be more proud. She loved spending time with her extended family at the beach and the farm. She cherished her family and friends, and lavished them all with her love, boundless enthusiasm, and never ending sense of humor.

Where she saw suffering, she sought to comfort; where she found pain, she sought to heal it; if there was want, she shared her earthly goods; and she brought kindness to all she met.

She was preceded in death by her father, and a sister Cheryl Cajigal.
