Ruby Southern Mathena, 75, of Prices Fork, died at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 1999 surrounded by family and friends at Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Carroll County on December 28, 1923 to the late John Wesley and Grace Lawson Southern.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Mathena.
She is survived by her daughter, Alice M. LoMascolo; granddaughters, Angie Flynn and Anna LoMascolo; grandsons-in-law, Mark Flynn and Eric Thomas; brothers, Henry Southern, Leo Southern, Johnny Southern, Jerry Southern, Earl Southern, Freddie Southern, and Alan Southern; sisters, Catherine Hedges and Peggy Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 14, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the St. Michael's Lutheran Church with Rev. Linda Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
