92, with his only daughter at his side, went to claim his heavenly reward at 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Green Meadows Healthcare Center.
He was adored as a father, and as a husband to his wife, Frances Armstrong, until her death in 1987. He was a faithful caregiver to her in the last two years of her life. Later, he married his second wife, Cynthia Logsdon, and cared for her until her passing.
A retired farmer, he took up wood working and made wonderful things for friends and family members. He also became an avid fisherman, loving nothing more than to catch and cook fish for anybody he could get to the table. He was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church, Mt. Washington where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Superintendant. It was his pride and joy to be present when the Armstrong clan gathered for yearly reunions, especially when UK basketball was being discussed.
He is preceded in death by his wives; parents; and brothers, Myron, Hubert, Carl and S.O. Armstrong, Jr., and several sisters.
He is survived by his daughter, Candace (Candy); and a host of nephews; nieces; great-nephews; great- nieces; and great-greats of both.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 21, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home, Mt. Washington with burial in the Mount Washington Cemetery.
