Mr. Dwain Hale, 79, of Portland, who was born December 1, 1924, in Ashley County, died Sunday, February 8, 2004, at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. A resident of Portland since 1947 and a cotton, soybean and rice farmer, he was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Portland United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Zelma Sivils Hale, and three brothers, Norman, Raymond and James W. Hale.


He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn Parkerson Hale; one daughter, Janice Brooks, both of Portland; two brothers, Brady Hale of Hamburg and Glen E. Hale of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Missy Hicks and Mike Brooks, both of Portland, and Steve Brooks of Hamburg and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 10, in the Portland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Briant officiating. Burial was to follow services at the Portland Cemetery under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg. Pallbearers were to be Bill and Fletcher Lassiter, Bubba Pugh, John Jaggers, John Jefferson, Terry Bierbaum and Bruce Bond. Honorary pallbearers were to be Earl Cochran, Billy Hawkins, Vernie Harris, Bud Botsford and Rudy Wrzesinski. Memorials may be made to the Portland Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. Tom Pugh, PO Box 37, Portland, AR 71663.
