SAMUEL HARRIS
Son of Robert Harris and Dorothy Wiley

Samuel Harris married Martha Laird in Pennsylvania. They came to America on
the same ship, and doubtless their courtship was the result of their long voyage together. Mr. I. L. Harris reports Samuel, et al, purchased land from Thomas Penn in 1737, and subsequently, in Lancaster County, PA. They moved to North Carolina on Clear Creek in Mecklenburg Co. around 1755, and were among the first settlers on the Rocky River. Later they moved to Georgia with their son, Matthew who married Hannah Ross.

Samuel was born abt 1715 in Raphoe Parish, Donegal, Ireland and died 10 Mar 1789
in Greene County, GA. Martha was born about 1719 in Raphoe Parish, Donegal, Ireland. They were married about 1735/6 in Pennsylvania. It is said Samuel died on the same day as his wife, and that they were buried in the same grave under the tree where they made their first camp in Greene County, near the headwaters of the Ogeechee River.
