Applegate, James Warren, 89, of Swarthmore, died on July 12, 2013. Born in Tipton, IN, he was son of the late George Washington and Leila Pearl Cherry Applegate and father of the late Barbara Kay Applegate. Mr. Applegate lived in Nogales, Mexico for two years and Salisbury, NC before moving to his late residence seven months ago.

He was a safety engineer for Transit Casualty Company and loved to fish and read. He served in the US Army during World War II and Korea. Mr. Applegate was a life member of the VFW Post 3006 and a member of the Samuel Hart American Legion Post 14, Salisbury, NC. He was also a member of Arcadia Lodge #1138, F. & A.M., Lansing, IL.

Survivors: loving husband of Bette A. Hayward Applegate, wife of 61 years, Father to Garry James and Bruce Robert, grandfather of Anthony Spotti (Alejandra), Several granchildren of Bruce Robert, Tracy Applegate Glosheski, and Tonya Applegate Remus and brother of Charles Applegate.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Tribute at 3:00 PM, Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Samuel Hart American Legion Post 14, 5865 South Main Street, Salisbury, NC.
