Mrs. George L. Smith, 97, a pioneer resident of the Fox Lake Community, passed away in Faribault Tuesday evening, June 28, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, June 30, at 2 p.m. at the First English Luthern Church with the Rev. A. L. Rustad, pastor of the Church officiating. A family service will be held at the Parker Funeral Home Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in the family lot in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Mrs. Smith is survived by one son, Lucius A. Smith of Faribault; four grandchildren, Bruce Smith, Olive Smith and June Smith, all of Faribault and First Lt. Wayne Smith, DDS, now Stationed with the Air Force at Parks Air Force Base Hospital at Pleasanton, Cal.; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, the late George L. Smith, who served as mayor of Faribault for five terms. He also served as judge of the Rice County Probate Court for three terms and as Register of Deeds and Deputy County Auditor along with many other civic interests. Mrs. Smith came to Faribault from Port Washington, Wis., as a young girl and had spent her lifetime in the Fox Lake community and in Faribault.
