Aged 31.
Son of Thomas Albeson and Elizabeth née Jones Albeson, of 133, Walker Street, Rhodes, Manchester.
His birth was registered in Prestwich, Bury, Lancashire, in the quarter ended March 1887.

The family worked in the Lancashire Cotton Industry. James had been an employee of Schwabe & Co. a large firm of calico printers, and was previously with JT Smith and JE Jones, for whom he died piecework.

In October 1918, the Yeomanry were based in Cork. He was presumably travelling home on leave.

He was a military passenger on board R.M.S. Leinster which was sunk by torpedoes in the Irish Sea, 16 miles east of Dublin, shortly before 10am on the morning of 10th October 1918, on its outbound journey of 100km [68 miles] from Kingstown [now Dun Laoghaire], Dublin, to Holyhead, Anglesey, North Wales.
His body was not recovered.

Sergeant James Rothwell Albeson, of the Cumberland Yeomanry, was presumed to have been drowned on the "Leinster" on October 10th, 1918. He resided at 29, Walker street, Rhodes, and had been two years in the Army. He was going home from Ireland, where he had been stationed as an instructor, on the "Leinster" for a leave when she went down. He was 31 years of age, and formerly worked at Schwabe's, Rhodes. He was connected with Rhodes New Jerusalem Church, and was a member of the Reading Room.
