Walter Leon Abbott, Springfield, the son of John and Nellie Abbott, was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Baxter Springs, Kan. He was a retired sales representative, member of Temple Baptist Church, U.S. Army veteran of World War II and member of the American Legion. Walter served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army In World War II, 794th infantry, as an ordinance inspector on government vehicles.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Abbott; brother, James Abbott; son, Tim Braig; three daughters, Lana McLemore, Loa Freeman, and Karen Bower; grandchildren, Lee, Angie, Lisa, Josh, Ian and Destiny; his great grandchildren, Kyla, Jake, Kelsi and Christina; aunts Ruby Sargent and Zula Asher.
Burial Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, with military honors.
