George Leonard Hodges, Jr. passed over peacefully on July 7, 2014 at the age of 90. He was born July 5, 1924 in North Carolina and moved to Texas in 1930 with his parents, Rev. George L. Sr. and Grace Hodges.

He was a devoted husband to Bobby Dean Clark who preceded him in death in 2011. He was a loving father to Ben and Wendy Hodges, Becky and Jerry Van Beveren and Robert and Cheryl Hodges. He was a wonderful Grandpa to Amy Van Beveren Spears (Marcellus), Dr. Emily Van Beveren, Brina Hodges Tomascek (Ike), Cody Hodges and Zachary Hodges. He was a gentle great-grandpa to Carly and Ike Tomascek, and Simone, Noelle, Solomon and Jaxson Spears. George is also survived by his sister Peggy Blackmon (Roye) and brother-in-law Johnny Stewart, and nieces and nephews. He is loved and missed by his family.

George was always a gentleman with handsome blue eyes and a winning smile, as well as a merchant, manager and family man.

George had a successful career with J.C. Penney Company that spanned 45 years. He started as a stock boy and rose to Manager of stores in Corpus Christi, Houston and Puerto Rico. He retired in 1986 to Padre Isles and enjoyed many years with his wife Bobby playing golf, dancing, traveling and entertaining grandchildren.

He served his country in the Quartermaster Corp. of the U. S. Army in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
