Either born in the townland of Aghacurreen or Eden, near the town of Ballaghaderreen in County Roscommon, Ireland. Son of Martin Kelly and Jennie Dillon. Most documents point to him being born around May 1832. Tibohine baptism records start in 1833 and his was not found. Considering the ages of his siblings, he was likely born around 1830. He married Bridget Deignan at the Tibohine Parish in County Roscommon on 1 Dec 1856. They immigrated to New Jersey and then to Chicago where she died in 1865. The widow's pension file states he married Bridget Bruen on 12 Jan 1871 at the Old St. Patrick Church in Chicago. It was destroyed by the Great Chicago Fire in Oct 1871, so there is no other record that exists of the date of their marriage.
