President of Meriden Britannia Company. Mayor of Meriden, Connecticut, 1870, 1871. Served in the Connecticut state legislature in 1848, 1859, 1862, 1866. Justice of the Peace. Philanthropist. Stockholder in many Meriden firms. Trustee of the Connecticut School for Boys. Member of Meriden Center Lodge, No. 68, I.O.O.F., and the Sons of the American Revolution. Chief supporter of St. Paul's Universalist Church in Meriden. He was elected to the Meriden Hall of Fame in 2005. Son of Isaac and Esther Beaumont Lewis. Married Harriet Pomeroy on May 11, 1836. They had six children.

Died suddenly while sitting in his chair, having complained of a slight cold.
