In 1841 they moved to Freeport, Illinois and in 1849, just after Wisconsin became a state, they moved to Bridgeport. They built a home for their family near the Wisconsin River. Justus taught in a log school house, near the site of the brick school house from which he was buried in 1876. The funeral service being preached by Rev GW Nuzum to a very large congregation. He was one of the finest teachers in the Bridgeport school.
