Floyd A. Lonzo, age 81, of Whitelaw, died Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2014 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Green Bay.
Floyd was born August 1, 1932 in Two Rivers, son of the late Wallace and Anna (Wondrash) Lonzo. He graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1950 and then attended Purdue University for Industrial Packaging and the Longston School of Business. Floyd served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1952 at Amphbus Base in Norfolk, VA. He was then transferred to the Destroyer, USS Stormes, DD780 from 1952 until 1955, with almost a year served in Korea and received his honorable discharge in 1956. Floyd was awarded the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, United Nation Service Metal, National Defense Service Metal and the 50th Anniversary Korean War Service Metal. Floyd was a life time member of the V.F.W. and Disabled Vets.
Floyd's family was one of the founding families in Two Rivers, both in the Commercial Great Lake Fishing and one of the first families to make Two Rivers their home. He was very pleased that his family was able during the depression years to help needy families with fresh fish before they sold the catch of the day. Floyd carried on the family fishing tradition, loving his sports fishing as a charter captain and his beautiful boats over the years. On May 24, 1962 he married Pat Shimek in Galena, IL. Floyd and Pat were very proud of raising, breeding and showing their beautiful American Quarter Horses for 50 years, winning at some of the country's largest and most prestigious shows including the American Quarter Horse Congress.
Floyd worked for North Central Airlines as a station agent in Manitowoc, moving on to Weyerhaeuser Company starting out as a foreman and ending his career as a plant superintendent.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Lonzo of 52 years, Whitelaw; one daughter and son-in-law: Lori and Dale Bratz, Collins; one son: Lance Lonzo, Two Rivers; one grandson: Alex Lonzo and his mother Daun Kintgen, Two Rivers; two children from a previous marriage: son, Larry Pannell a and daughter and son-in-law: Ann and Kevin Bellissimo; two grandchildren: Jason and Cory Bellissimo; one sister: Diane Urban and family, CA; sister-in-law: Jackie Lonzo, Two Rivers. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Also important in Floyd's life were his many pet dogs past and present who he treated as members of the family.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons: Clay Davis Bratz and Cy Loren Lonzo; one brother: Wally W. Lonzo, one nephew, David Lonzo; and one brother-in-law: Jim Urban.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014 at Klein & Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Burial will be at Valders West Cemetery and Military Honors will be accorded by the Two Rivers V.F.W. and American Legion.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, July 11, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Klein & Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers.
