Daniel Alton was a retired coal miner who had lived in BC and in Fernie for 45 years when he died. He was the son of Jeremiah Alton and Mary Caesar, both born in Ireland. He is listed as married at the time of his death, but the name of his spouse was left blank. The informant was his son Daniel Alton, Jr. of Fernie.

According to one of his descendants, Daniel was first married to Elizabeth White in Ontario and they had nine children (the last two were twins). Out of grief Daniel fled to Fernie where he married Elizabeth Mossop and had more children.

Daniel Alton (widower age 47, born in Wawanosh ON, son of Jeremiah Alton and Mary Caesar) and Elizabeth Mossop (widow age 26, born in Whitehaven Cumberland England, daughter of Joseph Fearon and June Davidson) were married in Fernie BC on 17 Apr 1911.
