He was born on July 29, 1925 in Norwalk, WI to George and Nellie (Schotten) Brandau. He grew up in Norwalk and moved to Leon as a teenager. He left school as a sophomore because his father passed away.
Bud met Harriet Starkey in Sparta in 1943 on her birthday. They married in 1945 in Wisconsin Dells. After marriage, they lived in Sparta while he worked at Fort McCoy. They lived in Mindoro, WI where he delivered milk. They lived in La Crosse and he worked as garage foreman for Gateway Transportation Co. They moved to Sparta in 1968. Gateway closed in 1982 and he worked for the Sparta school system and was bus driver for 13 years. He retired at age 79.
Bud was president of the Teamsters Union in La Crosse, president of Gateway Credit Union, was a member of the Moose Lodge in La Crosse and the Eagles Club in La Crosse. He enjoyed raising beef cattle, gardening, tinkering in his garage, hunting, and most importantly, his grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, George and Nellie; and his brothers, George, Jim, Giles, and John.
