REGINA 'Jeannie' AKERS

Regina Mae 'Jeanie' Hodges Akers, 45, of 771 Independence Road, Coal City, went to be with her Lord and Savior because God needed one more angel. She departed for heaven at 1:04 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at Raleigh General Hospital, after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Born Sep 2, 1955, at Beckley, she was the daughter of Alvin Lee and Edna Easter Hylton Hodges of Coal City.


She was a disabled certified nursing assistant last employed in private home health care. She was a 1974 graduate of Stoco High School in Coal City and a member of the Beckley Church of God.

She enjoyed motorcycle riding and traveling.

Other survivors include her husband of 28 years, Steve Akers, son of the late William G. and Angeline Akers of Coal; two sons, Earl S. Akers II and Sean Lee Akers, both of Coal City; two brothers, Ricky Hodges and his wife, Darlene, of Glen Morgan, and Stephen Dewayne Hodges and his wife, Renee, of Whitesville; a sister, Dream Ellison and her husband , Rick, of Coal City; seven nieces; six nephews; six great nieces and one great-nephew.

Service will be 1 p.m. today at the Beckley Church of God, on South Kanawha Street, Beckley, with Pastor F.D. Sexton and the Revs. Roger L. Akers and Timothy E. Akers officiating. Burial will follow in the Thompson Cemetery at Coal City.

Friends called 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Beckley Church of God.

Pallbearers will be Kevin McAlpine, Scott McAlpine, Monroe James, Paul Bays, Jerry Bolen and George Gibson.
