Walter E. Peterson, age 89, a resident of River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, formerly of Two Rivers, died Thursday morning, March 24, 2011, at River's Bend.
Walter was born March 18, 1922 in Hermansville, Mich., son of the late Charles C. and Anna (Radue) Peterson. He graduated from Hermansville High School with the class of 1940. Walter served in the U.S. Air Force serving with the 78th Airborne Division in Shepard Field, Texas, during 1944-45. On Jan. 21, 1942, he married Mildred Doncheck at St. Mark Catholic Church, Two Rivers. She preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 1999. Walter was employed as a foreman at Eggers Plywood Co. for 33 years retiring in March of 1986.
Survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law: Richard W. and Beverly Peterson, Mishicot; William E. and Mary Peterson, LaValle, Wisconsin; and Cindy Peterson, Townnsend; eight grandchildren: Jeffrey (Connie), Ricky (Kristy), Cody Peterson, Sherri Henrickson, Chad Peterson, Amy (Dave) Loomis, Patricia (Craig) Dawson, Christopher Peterson; 13 great grandchildren: Scott, Garrett, Alyssa, and Bennet Peterson; Brayden and Bryce Peterson; Andrew, Maxwell, Anna Christine, Jayden and Liam Dawson; Ryan and Leah Peterson. Other relatives and friends also survive
He was preceded in death by one son: Charles J. Peterson; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Grace Congregational UCC, Two Rivers. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Kim Henning with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Grace Congregational UCC Church from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
The Klein & Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
