Margaret S. Gearin died Dec. 5, 2001, at age 83.
Mrs. Gearin was born Margaret Culbert Spliid on Aug. 29, 1918, in Portland. She graduated from Lincoln High School and was a census taker for the U.S. Census Bureau for about 15 years, retiring in 1983. In 1941, she married John Gearin; he died in 1996.
Survivors include her sons, John T., Peter R. and Walter J.; brother, Oscar Spliid; and six grandchildren.
