YOUNG HUSBAND KILLED AT WORK - SILICA EMPLOYEE CRUSHED WHEN CAR OF SAND FAILS TO HALT RUSH - An attempt to stop a loaded railroad car single-handed cost the life of Christ Ziegelhofer, 22, an employee of the Toledo Stone and Glass Sand Co. of Silica, who died late Monday in Toledo Hospital following amputation of an arm and leg.
Ziegelhofer, who resided on Convent Blvd., was moving a car of sand under a chute at the Silica plant with a car mover Monday afternoon. A slight incline caused the car to move slowly on its own momentum. The young man ran to the front end of the car and placed his bar while standing directly in the path of the car. The bar caught his knee and wrist, holding him while the heavy car slowly slid over his body.
Funral services were held Thursday at the home of his parents in Toledo, followed by interment in Forest Cemetery.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alma Hipple Ziegelhofer, and an infant daughter, born last Saturday.
