Born in Reitwiller, Alsace, France to Johann George Mugler and Marguerite Goetz. The family emigrated to the US in the 1840's. They first appear on the US census in 1850 in Harrison County, Indiana. On the 21st of June 1860, he married Mary Jane Deweese at the home of her parents, Joseph and Susannah (Walk) Deweese in New Salisbury, Harrison County, Indiana.
On the 19th of August 1862, he mustered in the 66th Regiment, Indiana Infantry, CO. I, and deserted (to tend to his crops) on the 11th of December 1862.
He then reinlisted in the 51st Indiana Infantry, Co. I, on the 6th of October 1863 (as George Mugler) at Indianapolis and mustered out with the rest of the Company on the 13th of December 1865 in San Antonio, Texas. He died 12 years later at his home in Jackson TWP, Harrison County, Indiana due to "Disease of Heart". All info documented.
