Calvin H. Ankeny was born at Harnedsville on Dec. 12, 1848, and lived most of his life in the Harnedsville-Confluence district. He resided in Illinois for about ten years, and was also in Pittsburgh for several years. He was married twice, first to Emma Morrow, who preceded him to the grave about 50 years ago. To this union were born five children, two of whom survive, Harry M. Ankney and Mrs. D. H. Brown, both of Confluence. About 48 years ago he married Miss Ella Majors, who survives. To this union four children were born, three of whom survive. The surviving children are Earl Ankeny of Warren, Ohio; Mrs. Olive Phillippi, Harnedsville, and Claude Ankeny, at home; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Ankeny was for many years a school teacher, having taught throughout Somerset County, as well as in Maryland. He later retired from teaching, and engaged in farming and in veterinarian work. He kept up his work at farming until three years ago, when he fell and broke a hip, and had been since confined to his bed. He was a member of the Harnedsville Evangelical Church. He was a consistent Christian and a kind and loving father and husband.
Funeral services were held at the family home at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Rev. William H. Weisheit, of the Confluence Christian Church officiating. Interment at the Addison Cemetery. Charles B. Humbert was the funeral director in charge.
