TAHLEQUAH — Kerry Lee Adair, 31, of Akwesasne, Quebec, and native to Oklahoma, passed from this life on July 6, in Massena, New York. Funeral services have been scheduled for Kerry on Monday, July 14, at 2 p.m. at the Sequoyah High School Gym with pastor Mike Glass of New Beginnings Church in Brushy officiating. Interment will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery.
Kerry was born on Nov. 12, 1982, in Tahlequah, to Linda "Lynn" Adair and Donald Lee Adair. He is survived by both his parents, Donald of Tahlequah and Lynn Adair and her fiancé Edwin McCulley, also of Tahlequah; his brothers, Ryan, Zach and Chad Adair, all of Tahlequah; a half-brother, Stone Girty of Vian; and a half-sister, Michelle Adair Cheater of Keys Community. Kerry is also survived by and his partner, David Weege Oakes of the home; and his adopted Mohawk sister Katsitsianoron Thompson "Nolo" of Akwesasne, New York.
Kerry is also survived by his grandmothers Katie Adair of Sallisaw, and Akie Gourd of Tahlequah; his nieces and nephews, Hope, Darian, and Kristen Adair of Stilwell, Destin and Angel Adair of Sallisaw, and King and Trinity Adair of Westville. Kerry leaves behind a host of aunts and uncles, cousins, and other relatives and many friends from all over the world.
Kerry grew up in Bunch, where he attended elementary schools in Marble City and Cave Springs. He attended high schools at Sequoyah, Gore and Vian. He graduated from Vian with a 4.5 GPA in May 2000. Upon graduation, Kerry received a scholarship from the University of San Francisco where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy in May 2003. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in social sciences (communications) in May 2005 from Boise State University.
Kerry worked as a vault manager for Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco. He also served as a Call Center Supervisor for Nexxlinx of Tahlequah in 2006. His favorite jobs included coaching gymnastics for Northeastern State University and Cheer It Up! in Tahlequah. He also coached gymnastics in Denver, Colorado, and North Carolina.
During his days in California, Kerry modeled for Paul Frank and French Connection United Kingdom. He was also on the cover of several magazines.
Kerry enjoyed being around people. He loved talking and laughing. He also loved dancing to music by Lady Gaga and Capital Sities. He loved singing karaoke. He worked as a D.J. in Tulsa known as "Kerry the Fairy" and served as a mascot for Gay Pride. He was a member of New Beginnings Church in Brushy
His skills included dynamics of interpersonal communications, public relations, conflict management mediation, and writing and editing. He enjoyed volunteering in political campaigns. He was a member of the Cherokee Nation
He loved animals, children and watching cartoons and movies such as the "Wizard of Oz," "It," "Sister Act I and II," "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Taxi" and many others. His favorite shows were "Ellen," "Will and Grace," and "Law and Order."
He was preceded in death by two brothers in 1976; his grandfathers, Pumpkin Drywater, John B. Adair, Robert Nofire, and J.B. Bird; a grandmother, Euna Bell Nofire, and his great-grandparents, James and Susie Vann; and his three dogs Samara, Hiroshi, and Rusty.
Kerry loved everyone and traveled extensively during his young life, he settled in Canada near upstate New York where he became family to the Mohawk Nation at the time of his passing.
He will be missed by many.
