William was the second of ten children of Edward Mobley and Jane Bradshaw. He married Alvina Eveline Hunt on August 16, 1843, in their native Lawrence County, Tennessee.

On July 28, 1849, they sold their land in Tennessee and went west, first through Arkansas and on to Texas. They first homesteaded in Tarrant County (Dec. 1853), and finally settled in Montague County by 1880. (If you are a genealogist, contact me; I have more information).

William and Alvina had an interesting flair for names. They had eight children:
* Rosenblum Alonzo "Lon"
*Pocahontas Aholabama Camparacia Aramenta
*Lycurgus Luther
*Eugene Ezekiel "Zeke"
*Claudius Augustus
*Julius Ferdinand
*Robert Bruce
*Patient Victoria Early Devotion Rosa
