Girl, 3, Struck by Truck, Dies at Two Rivers
Accident Occurred Thursday; Second Fatal for City
TWO RIVERS—
Lona Mae, 3, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Vondrachek, of 2506-37th St., died at 1:55 p.m. Thursday at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital of injuries received when she was struck by a U.S. Post Office Dept. delivery truck near her home shortly after 10:15 a.m. Besides a broken pelvis she received internal injuries.(Private), was the driver of the government vehicle. He had been delivering mail on the mounted route in that area when the accident occurred. (Private) told police he was driving west on 37th Street and stopped to deliver mail to the Vondracheks. He said that after he deposited the mail in the box, he started up again and felt a bump. He said he stopped quickly and saw the Vondrachek girl lying in

the driveway. (Private) said he then tried to help the girl. An ambulance was summoned.

Playmates of Lona Mae had different versions of the mishap. One said that she ran from the driveway of a home at 2515-37th St., and another said it was from another residence nearby.

Lona Mae was born Nov. 11, 1956, at Manitowoc, a daughter of Charles and Bete Fischer Vondrachek. The family brought her to Two Rivers a year later.

Besides the parents she leaves two sisters, Di Ann and Charlene, at home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Fischer, of Frederick S.D., paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Vondrachek, of Reedsville, and great maternal grandmother, Mrs. F. W. Burlock, of Aberdene, S.D.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday with a Mass of the Angels at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the Rev. John K. Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
