James B. Kirby, age 71, of Scottsville, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at his residence in Scottsville, KY.

He was born June 22,1943 in Bowling Green, KY to the late Eldon Kirby Sr. and Mattie Will Norris, He Graduated from Alvaton High School, and Bowling Green Business College. He was retired from the Warren Co. Board of Education as a Bus driver. He Proudly served our country for forty years, beginning his military career in 1963 and serving in twenty countries, fifteen states, and two wars, receiving several medals ribbons and awards.

He was a life member of the VFW Halfrey Dalton Post #5712 Scottsville, where he served as Commander for nine years. He also was a life member of the DAV Halfrey Dalton Post #152 in Scottsville, where he served as commander for nine years; Other memberships include Military Order of Cootie Pup Tent #9 in Franklin, KY; American Legion Post #23 in Bowling Green, KY.

He is Survived by a Loving Companion – Gail Brownfield; of Scottsville, KY
Step –Son Steve Haswell; of Bowling Green, KY
Two Step- Daughters – Jackie Haswell; of Bowling Green, KY and Melinda Jones; of Bowling Green, KY
Four Brothers- Lawrence Kirby and wife Nell; of Alvaton, KY
Wendell Kirby and wife Marion; of Alvaton, KY
Larry Kirby and Wife Sharon; of Scottsville, KY
Earl Kirby and wife Joyce; of Alvaton, KY
Donnie Kirby and wife Donna; of Alvaton, KY
One Sister – Francis Thomas; of Bowling Green, KY
Sister in-Law – Betty Kirby ;of Bowling Green, KY
Sister In-law- Chatherine Kirby; of Bowling Green, KY
Special Family Greg, Jennifer, Lydia, Hannah Kirby, and Cassie Meador.
Several Nieces and Nephews also survive

In addition to his parents he is Preceded in death by his
Sister Mary Kirby, Brothers; Billy Rhea Kirby, Eldon Robert Kirby Jr.
and one brother in-law Art Thomas.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Strode Funeral Home Scottsville Chapel with burial to follow in the Friendship Community Church Cemetery, Warren Co. KY

Visitation will be held after 4:00 P.M. Thursday July 17, 2014 and after 7:30 A.M. Friday July 18, 2014 until funeral time.

Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Friendship Community Church Cemetery.
