Dorothy Baartman was born September 10, 1923 in Sioux County, Iowa near Middleburg to Pleun and Dorothy (Berkenpas) Baartman. She attended school there until the family moved to Minnesota near Lake Benton and later to Ruthton, Minnesota.

She was united in marriage to William Cramer on February 9, 1945 in Holland, Minnesota. The couple lived near Ruthton and Tyler until they moved to a farm between White and Toronto, South Dakota. They moved to the Estelline area in 1959 where Bill operated a radio and TV shop. Dorothy was employed by the Estelline Journal as a linotype operator until her retirement in 1971. She served several years on the Estelline City Council and the Estelline Community Ambulance service. Bill and Dorothy were members of the South Dakota Old-Time Fiddlers and enjoyed sharing their musical talents entertaining. Bill died on January 15, 1993.

On July 1, 2000, Dorothy married James Blom at Estelline. She enjoyed playing cards with the Estelline Senior Card Club and traveling to fiddler performances. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers, especially African Violets. In February of 2012, Dorothy and Jim moved to StoneyBrook Assisted Living in Brookings and in 2013 they moved to Falls Landing Assisted Living in Pipestone, MN. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Pipestone and a former member of the United Church of Christ in Estelline. The past few years her main enjoyment was listening and singing along with the old-time music that she had recorded. She was still able to sing and hum along and still remembered most of the words.

Dorothy died on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 90 years.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband James Blom of Pipestone; daughter Wanda Tyler of White, SD; son Roger (Debbie) Cramer of Sergeant Bluff, IA; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; step children, Jerry (Verla) Blom of Bozeman, MT, Allen (LaVonne) Blom of Pipestone, Steve (Lynette) Blom of St. Cloud, MN, Daniel (Lucinda) Blom of Fairview, TN, Connie (Calvin) Tinklenberg of Chandler, MN and Cindy Coffee of Shelbyville, TN; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill Cramer, grandsons Troy and Brian Tyler, brothers and sisters, Pauline Gorter, Bert Baartman, Cynthia Blom, Marion Baartman, a brother in infancy and son-in-law Ronald "Toby" Tyler.

Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, July 21, 2014 at the United Church of Christ in Estelline. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday at the Christian Reformed Church in Pipestone. There will be a Prayer Service at 4:00 PM Sunday at the church.
