Arcille Johnston Ashby, 94, of Northfork Road in Martinsville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from her earthly home. She was born in Henry County, February 17, 1920 to John Henry Johnston and Essie Maude Reynolds Johnston. She was self-employed as a seamstress and worked in her home. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church and Gideon's International Ladies Auxiliary having served as president and vice-president.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Larry Arnold Ashby; five sisters, Geneva Cannaday, Louise Evans, Nannie Richardson, Mary Elizabeth Franklin and Ruby Irene Truslow; three brothers, Henry W. Johnston, James William Johnston and Johnny Noel Johnston.

Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Carolyn Eanes of Martinsville, Joan Ellen York (Claude) of Fort Mill, SC and Phyllis Ann Keith (David) of Ridgeway; three sons, Arthur Lloyd Ashby of Martinsville, L. Arnold Ashby, Jr. (Carol) of Huntersville, NC and David Wayne Ashby (Gloria) of Galax, VA; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 20, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville and other times at the home.

The funeral service will be held Monday, July 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home with David Naff and the Rev. Tracy Freeman officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
