The obituary of Martha (Adams) Bates as published in the May 15, 1958, issue of The Mountain Eagle:

MARTHA BATES

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday for Martha Bates at her residence at Ermine at 2 p.m. Ministers Lloyd Pike, Basil Hall and Bob Sexton officiated. Burial was in the family cemetery.

Mrs. Bates was 82 years old and a daughter of John and Jane Lucas Adams. She had been confined to her bed for nine years and critically ill for three weeks. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Her husband John W. (Buck) Bates preceded her in death.

Survivors include the followinging children: Wint of Seco; Can, Minnie Lee, Dallas Lee and Ida Perry of Ermine; Lizzie Branch of Detroit and Myrtle Miller of Mayking. Five brothers and two sisters are also among the survivors.

The Craft Funeral Home was in charge or the final arrangements.
