On April 2 of 1901 a 28 year old 'Englishman', Daniel Callaghan was charged with desertion by Captain Rich while living aboard the H.M.S. Ringaroomas in New South Wales, Australia. His sentence was 90 days in Gaol at Darlinghurst. 'Remarks' "?**? conviction" "Description' 5 feet 3 inches [Height doesn't match up](?) Sandy Hair, Blue Eyes. 'Disposal'- To naval escort 29-6-01. Less than 5 months later, 28 year old Daniel J. Callaghan married Violet Carey on November 12, 1901 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.


His father was born in England, his mother born in Scotland.


Home in 1910 was Los Angeles Assembly District 72, Los Angeles, California.
In 1917 at the age of 44 years old Daniel was living at NW 11th & Santa Clara Street in San Jose, California at which time he registered for the draft. His World War I Draft Registration Card was(Serial number 3940)(Order number 2765)). He was a Manufacturer employed by Callaghan and Clarke in the Fox Croft Building up in San Francisco, California.
He listed his nearest relative as his wife Violet. This card also confirmed his birth date (Oct. 2, 1873). His physical description was 5ft.11, slender build blue eyes and brown hair.

In 1920 they lived in San Jose with Dorris (14)and Carey (16). By 1930 they were living in Redwood City in San Mateo County (CA).
