The following article/obituary is from the May 10, 1973, issue of the Mountain Eagle newspaper:

Accident Kills Two

A Letcher County man and his wife were killed instantly Saturday morning as they were on their way to church. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Boatwright died instantly when their automobile ran into the rear of an Adams Construction Co. gravel truck. Both the car and the loaded truck were going north on Kentucky 15 at Garner Mountain. Sheriff Lewis Hall said the car went under the back end of the truck and the truck bed pierced the windshield of the car. Both cars were in the right lane going up the hill on a straight stretch and there was no immediate explanation for the wreck. The truck driver was not injured. No charges were filed in connection with the wreck.

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Boatright were held Tuesday at the Sandlick Regular Baptist Church. Elders Ellis Banks, Wilson Banks, and Curtis Caudill officiated. Burial was in the family cemetery at Ice.

Mr. Boatright was 68 and Mrs. Boatright, the former Gladys Cornett, was 51. They had one son, Billy Boatright, Romulus, Mich., and two grandchildren. Mr. Boatright is survived also by four brothers, Floyd, Ted, Patton and Boyd Boatright, and Mrs. Boatright is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kuhn, Mrs. Cynthia Campbell, Mrs. Lona Thacker and Mrs. Ocia Miles. Ray Collins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
