TAHLEQUAH — Funeral services for Paul Franklin Carter II will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014, at the Hart Funeral Chapel with Capt. Stephen Alyea officiating. Interment will follow in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the care and direction of Hart Funeral Home of Tahlequah.

Paul Franklin Carter II, the son of Paul Carter and Vickie (Watson) Tankersley, was born Aug. 12, 1976, in Tulsa, and departed this life on Monday, July 21, in Tahlequah, at the age of 37 years, 11 months and 9 days.

PJ worked as a pilot car driver for Bargain Tire Escort. He was a member of the Illinois River Volunteer Fire Department where he also served as fire chief. He had proudly served as a firefighter for more than eight years and enjoyed everything the job had to offer, especially being the air boat pilot.

PJ loved the river and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He was always on the go doing something, and there was nobody that PJ wouldn't help.

He had a heart for people and a passion for fire and rescue and those two things combined defined PJ as a man. PJ touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his stepdad, Charles Tankersley; and his brother, Brian Tankersley.

He is survived by a loving family which includes his wife, Michelle Carter of the home; his father, Paul Carter and wife Dianna of Okmulgee; his mother, Vickie Tankersley of Tahlequah; his daughters, Kayla Dunn and husband Josh, and Sidney Carter all of Tahlequah; his sons, Paul Carter III of Iowa, and Jeffrey Strauer of Weleetka; his grandchildren, Liliana and Ella Dunn, both of Tahlequah; his brothers, Doyle Mackall of Tahlequah, Chris Carter of Tahlequah, Kenneth Tankersley of Tulsa, Gary Tankersley of Byron, and AJ Carter and wife Kim of Okmulgee; and his sisters, Laurie Hougland and husband Charles, Erin Barrera and husband Rene' of Grin, Texas, and Winomie Wilson and husband Matt of Okmulgee. A host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive him.

Memorial contributions may be made to Illinois River Volunteer Fire Department, 20385 E. Steeley Hollow Rd., Tahlequah, OK 74464.
